Purity culture12/11/2022 ![]() ![]() Wish the author had gone further than she did to address this issue. The body of believers as a whole should be doing better too. I deserve better than what the purity culture mindset taught me. 114: Purity Culture and Healing Sexual Shame with Cait and Cole Zick Caitlin talks about her story and how she felt taunted by shameful moments of her past. And I see now that I have value beyond what purity culture imparts. I want to emphasize that I'm a believer and I have big faith. Maybe I was naive to expect an evangelical to have a holistic view on this issue. ![]() #Purity culture how toIf you're looking for a true resource on how to help people who have been harmed by purity culture, or how to have a truly loving viewpoint on this issue, I would not consider this book to be the best resource. I found this book to be highly offensive and misguided. The end of the book even seems to justify many of the purity culture myths and common misconceptions. ![]() This book doesn't do enough to address the traumatic effects purity culture has on victims. I'm simultaneously trying to break free from the damage purity culture did to my sexual agency, self esteem, and spiritual health- while also maintaining my deep faith in Jesus. They color pretty much every aspect of my life. Purity Culture is not to blame, but it did not help men any more than it helped women. I'm someone who has legitimate purity culture trauma triggers. ![]()
